Taughannock Soccer Club Programs
The Taughannock Soccer Club offers varied opportunities for soccer experiences at both recreational and competitive levels of play. These opportunities are available almost year-round. The TSC will make every reasonable effort to facilitate a member's desire to play soccer at the member's desired level of play. The only limits to this goal and/or participation in a given program are the pool of interested players from which fully-rostered teams can be created, and the number of adult volunteers, who step forward to coach these teams. Each program requires a participation fee, which varies with the program or league. Additional fees for referees, tournaments, or uniforms may also be incurred, again depending on the program or league.
Fall Recreational Soccer Program
The TSC currently sponsors one program – the Fall recreational program for children 5 to 11 years old. The program is held on the soccer fields behind the Trumansburg High School during September and October. This is an informal program with a mid-week training session and Sunday afternoon games. There are no established teams; players in a given age group are divided evenly to allow 2 to 3 concurrent games to be played. Games are "short-sided" with 4 to 6 players per team. Teams rotate after about 20 minutes of play so that up to 3 games can be played against different groups of players. Coaching is conducted by parent/volunteers, who receive instruction on training exercises and coaching that are appropriate for a given age group. The emphasis of this program is on fun, but age-appropriate soccer skills are taught as well.
Facilitated Programs
The TSC facilitates member participation in several regional leagues, including the Fall program of the Tompkins County Soccer Association (www.tompkinssoccer.org), the Winter (indoor) program at the Field in Lansing (www.crcthefield.org/WL/FIELDWL.html), and the Spring program of the Broome County Soccer Association (www.broomesoccer.org). Serious soccer enthusiasts also have the opportunity to try out and play for teams that participate in Premier leagues of central and western New York, such as the TC United teams (www.tcunited.com), which participate in the Upstate New York Premier Soccer League (www.upstatesoccer.com).
Fall Tompkins County Soccer Association League
Participation in the Tompkins County Soccer Association Fall travel league is designed to provide a competitive soccer alternative to the TSC recreational program for Under-10 and Under-12 players. The program is administered by the Lansing Soccer Club (www.lansingsoccer.org). Games are played on weekends from September to early November. This is a travel program; away games are usually within an hour of Trumansburg. Home games are played in Trumansburg on the High School fields. A team usually consists of about 14 to 16 players. Fees incurred include a league registration fee and referee's fees. Tournament fees, if applicable, are additional. The cost is split among the players on a given team.
Winter Indoor Program at the Field
Indoor soccer during the winter is played on astro-turf in enclosed "hockey-rink" style fields at The Field in Lansing, and is available for all players under nineteen years old (www.crcthefield.org/WL/FIELDWL.html). The season is divided into two 10-week sessions that run from mid-November through mid-January and mid-January through mid-April. A team may participate in one or both sessions. Hour-long games (usually one per week) are played on weekends. A team usually consists of ten to sixteen players. The cost for each session, which includes league and referee fees, is split among the players on a given team.
Spring Broome County Soccer Association League
The Spring Broome County Soccer Association League (www.broomesoccer.org) provides a competitive soccer opportunity for all players under the age of nineteen. Games are played on weekends from late April through the end of June. Teams are created to meet the interests and needs of members. Teams consist of up to 14 players for Under-10 and younger, 16 players for Under-12, and 18 players for older age groups. This is a travel program; away games can be as far away as Oneonta (2 hours), but usually are within an hour of Trumansburg. Home games are played in Trumansburg on the High School fields. Fees incurred include a league registration fee and referee's fees. Usually the spring travel teams will participate in at least one tournament, in which case, tournament fees would be additional. The cost is split among the players on a given team.
TC United Premier Soccer Club
The TC United Premier Soccer Club (www.tcunited.com) provides select and premier levels of soccer for developmentally oriented Under-12 through Under-19 players. The teams are professionally coached and travel greater distances to play teams of similar caliber. TC United also hosts a Youth program for Under-4 through Under-10 players.
Summer Soccer Camp
During each summer, the TSC hosts a high-quality Major League Soccer camp, which is conducted by professional European soccer players, who have been trained in age-appropriate soccer techniques, as well as in methods to convey technical information to children. This exciting opportunity is available to all players under nineteen years of age and is held during mid-July on the Trumansburg High School fields. More information on the MLS soccer camp (http://www.tscsoccer.org/mlssummercamp.htm) can be found elsewhere on the TSC website.
Other Soccer Activities in the Trumansburg Area
Village Summer Soccer Program The Village of Trumansburg sponsors a recreational soccer experience for children entering second through eighth grades in the Fall. This program is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings during July on the fields behind the High School. Coaches are parent volunteers. Fees range from $20 to $30 depending on the location of one’s residence. Information on this program should be brought home by school children near the end of the school year.
Village Soccer Camp The Village sponsors a camp for several sports, including soccer, during the summer. Children entering third through twelfth grades in the Fall can participate. Two-hour sessions are held on five consecutive days on the fields behind the High School. Third through sixth graders are coached by T-burg High School coaches; the fee ranges from $25 to $35 depending on the location of one’s residence. Seventh through ninth graders and tenth through twelfth graders meet in separate sessions and typically are trained by a coach from one of the nearby colleges; the fee for these sessions will range from $55 to $65. Information on this program should be brought home by school children near the end of the school year.
